Canonical Hours for Devotees of Our Mother God

The Christian Canonical Hours were established early in the history of that faith – some dating them from Apostolic times. They have close analogues in Islam, Judaism and other religions. Undoubtedly they have their first origins in the original religion of humanity: the worship of Our Mother God.

Just as great cycle of the year, with its festivals is representation of the Cosmic Drama, so the little cycle of the day with its Canonical Hours presents a similar natural pattern.

The Liturgies for the Canonical Hours arranged by the St Anne's Liturgical and Theological Institute for Collyridian worshippers of the Lady Mary as Supreme Deity have attracted interest among devotees and following some comments we made, we have been asked to suggest versions of these Canonical Hours that are recommended for Filianic usage.

As with the Translations of the Catholic Rosary Prayers, these liturgies of the Canonical Hours are particularly valuable to those who wish to worship Our Mother God within the Western tradition – a form that we may properly designate as Catholic in the sense of being Universal, but which is fully Déanic in its recognition of Our Divine Mother and the Feminine Holy Trinity, as defined in the Filianic Creed as the absolute and only God.

Of the Canonical Hours given here the three most important are considered to be Terce, Hemera (Sext) and Epi-Hemera (None), – Third Hour, Sixth Hour and Ninth Hour. These Canonical Hours are at 9 am, Noon and 3 pm respectively. Note that this numbering regards the symbolic dawn-hour of 6 am as the first hour – corresponding to the beginning of the year at the Spring Equinox, which is the case in the Filianic calendar.

It is a practice in some Deanic congregations to use these three Canonical Hours (whether in this Catholic Western form or in some other) together with prayers upon awakening and going to rest (which may or may not take the form of the Canonical Hours of Aurora and Compline). These five Canonical Hours correspond to the five seasons of the Filianic Year.

Liturgies for the Canonical Hours

Canonical Hours

Office of Aurora (upon awakening)

Glory be to the Holy and Eternal One: to the Blessed Mother, to the Divine Daughter, and to Dea beyond Form; as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall ever be, world without end.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be always acceptable in thy sight, Our Lady, my strength and my redeemer.

Our Mother, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy ranyam come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the ranyam, the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Canonical Hours

Office of Stella Matutina (Prime: 6 a.m.)

Hail to Thee, Star of the Morning.

Glory be to the Holy and Eternal One: to the Blessed Mother, to the Divine Daughter, and to Dea beyond Form; as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall ever be, world without end.

O send out Thy light and truth, that they may lead me, and bring me unto Thy holy hill and to Thy dwelling.
Worship Our Lady in the beauty of Her holiness; Her mercy is everlasting;
O come let us adore her.

Remember, O Most Gracious Lady Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to Thy protection,
implored Thy help or sought Thine intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto Thee, O refuge of all souls, my Mother;
to Thee do I come, before Thee I kneel, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the world and of the Heaven,
despise not my petitions, but in Thy clemency, hear and answer me.
Amen.

Office of the Third Hour (Terce: 9 a.m.)

Glory be to the Holy and Eternal One: to the Blessed Mother, to the Divine Daughter, and to Dea beyond Form; as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall ever be, world without end.

O give thanks unto Our Lady, and call upon Her name; tell the people what things She hath done. The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Queen of Heaven in spirit and in truth; for She seeketh such to worship her.

Holy, almighty, gracious and loving Lady, to Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hid; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love Thee, and worthily magnify Thy holy name. Amen.

Office of Hemera: the Sixth Hour (Sext: Noon)

Give praise, ye servants of the Eternal;
praise Her majestic Name.
Let the Name of Our Lady be blessed,
from this time forth for evermore.
From the rising of the sun to its going down
let the Name of the Our Lady be praised.
The Eternal One is high above all nations,
and Her glory above the heavens.

Glory be to the Holy and Eternal One: to the Blessed Mother, to the Divine Daughter, and to Dea beyond Form; as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall ever be, world without end.

Our Lady, Thou willst keep in perfect peace those whose minds are fixed on Thee; for in returning and rest we shall be saved; in quietness and trust shall be our strength.

Amen.

The Holy One whose peace exceedeth all our understanding: regard not our sins, but the faith of Thy children, and give to us the peace and unity of Thy heavenly City, where with thee, in the unity of the Daughter and of Dea beyond all Form, liveth and reigneth, now and for ever. Amen.

Canonical Hours

Office of Epi-Hemera: Ninth Hour (None: 3 p.m.)

Most merciful Lady,
we confess that we have sinned against Thy light
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done
and by what we have left undone.
We have turned from Thee to the things of Thy creation
we have loved our little selves above the Great Self that is Thee
and that shines in our sisters.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
Rescue us from the winds of the samsara;
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in Thy sovereign will,
and walk in the Way of Heaven,
to the glory of Thy holy name. Amen.

Amen.

For Thou, Our most gracious Lady Mary, art indeed the true joy and gladness of those who love Thee, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, in the unity with Thine eternal Daughter, who is without beginning, and with Dea Absolute from whom all things proceeded, and to Whom all things shall return. Amen.

Canonical Hours

Office of Vespers, or Hesperis (6 p.m.)

O gracious light,
pure brightness of the everliving Queen of Heaven,
O Daughter of Eternity, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing Your praises, O God: Blessed Mother, Divine Daughter and Dea beyond Form.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Daughter of Light, O Giver of Life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Amen.

Dwell with us, O most merciful Lady, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know Thee as Thou art revealed through Thy divine Image. Grant this for the sake of thy love. Amen.

Canonical Hours

Office of Matins (9 p.m.)

Glory be to Thee most merciful Lady, glory to Thee.
Glory to Thee who givest me sleep.

For a perfect, holy, peaceful, healthy, sinless course,
O Lady, hear our prayer.

For the Angel of Peace, a faithful guide, guardian of souls and bodies, to encamp around me, and ever to prompt what is salutary,
O Lady, hear our prayer.

Whatever is true, whatever is honest,
whatever just, whatever pure,
whatever lovely, whatever of good report,
May our hearts and minds dwell on it.

Amen.

Visit this place, Queen of Heaven, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy; let thy holy angels dwell with us to preserve us in peace; and let Thy blessing be upon us always; through Thy incarnated Daughter of Eternity, our redemption.

The Almighty and Eternal One, Blessed Mother, Divine Daughter, and Dea beyond Form, bless us and keep us. Amen.

Canonical Hours

The Office of Compline (before retiring)

The Eternal Lady grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end. Amen.
O Eternal One, make speed to save us.
Our Lady, make haste to help us.

Glory be to the Holy and Eternal One: to the Blessed Mother, to the Divine Daughter, and to Dea beyond Form; as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall ever be, world without end.

Into Thy hands I commend my spirit,
for Thou hast redeemed me, O Eternal One, the Mistress of truth.
Keep us, O Lady, as the apple of Thine eye.
Hide us under the shadow of Thy wings.

Our Lady have mercy.
Mary have mercy.
Our Lady have mercy.

Amen.

Be our light in the darkness, Our Lady, and in Thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of Thine only Daughter of Eternity, our Saviour.

Be present, most merciful Lady, and protect us through the hours of this night, so that we who are wearied by the changes and chances of this life may rest in Thine eternal changelessness. Amen.

Guide us waking, O Lady, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with thy Daughter, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Let us bless the Queen of Heaven.
Thanks be to our Lady.
The almighty and merciful One: Blessed Mother, Divine Daughter and Dea beyond Form, bless us and keep us. Amen.

    The Other Philosophy

Everything you have ever heard comes out of the patriarchal world-view. Its materialism, its religion, even its feminism. Here is the other way of seeing the world; the natural way: the way that everyone saw things before patriarchy and will again when patriarchy is long forgotten.
